be in a position to get from the market information
regarding the external environment such as, for
instance:
• availability of financing sources and the main
requirements they will impose as a condition
for the financing of the Plant;
• market prevailing conditions, market pressures
and market’s perception of Company’s
commercial power;
• skilled, reputable and motivated EPC
contractors.
Prioritizing, contractual tuning
and iteration
Once consolidated above information Company
should be able to perform an accurate match
between its internal environment and the market’s
perception, and shall therefore be in a position to
• re-evaluate and prioritize its objectives;

• fine tune the final contracting method as well
as the allocation of risks and incentives as the
case may be.
Only when both external and internal factors have
been duly considered, the results of the analysis
can constitute a sound foundation for the selection
of the final EPC contracting strategy for the plant.
2. Contracting methods
– brief description of the
alternatives
Split in Packages
A given Plant can be divided into different work
packages which constitute physical macro-areas
that geographically aggregate units or group of
units with common ancillaries / systems having an
extensive degree of interconnection/integration.
Said macro-areas are designed to be physically
segregated in order to avoid interferences that
may complicate construction and commissioning
works at site. A typical layout for a multiple
package industrial complex is shown in figure 2
and figure 3.
The packages constitute at the end of the FEED
stage the EPC bid packages and later on the EPC
blocks of the Complex.
Split of SoW
For a given package of a complex project, with
the understanding that the entire SoW is EPCS,
the following SoW’s alternatives are considered
feasible:
Alternative 1: EPCS
• Alternative 2: EPCSm + S
• Alternative 3: EPCmSm + C + S
