In order to minimize loss of revenue, it is essential to use online condition monitoring and

diagnostics systems to receive information about the health of operating equipment. 89
By using predictive and preventive maintenance techniques, B&W SPIG can identify potential
failures before they occur and take action to address them, helping to reduce downtime and
optimize the yield for cooling systems worldwide.
Monitoring the installed fleet of cooling systems enables us to provide diagnostics-based
predictive performance maintenance; in short, we can see problems before they affect an
equipment’s performance and take preventative steps accordingly (figure 3). When monitoring a
cooling equipment, data collected from other systems are also considered. This provides unique
insight about how the equipment operates.
Monitoring and Diagnostic (M&D) is a system that allows continuous monitoring of Cooling
Systems operating parameters through the acquisition of data collected from up to over one
hundred sensors in each equipment. Information are analyzed and compared against the other
Plant’s Cooling Equipment and same type global fleet.
In case deviations from standard, suspicious trends or path, or “not normal” conditions are found,
alerts are generated in order to investigate and assess the situation, allowing detection of
potential issue at an early stage. At the same time customer also has access to same data as B&W
SPIG.
The B&W SPIG structured quality-orientated, lean six sigma problem-solving process is run from
one central performance diagnostics center in Italy, and from local centers all over the world. It is
equipped with a full range of precision data acquisition and analytical systems and collects data
from customer sites worldwide twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. With this capability,
we offer a series of monitoring, diagnostic, advisory and tuning services to maximize machine
performances, maintainability and safety, to help prevent unexpected failures.
