The solution
One of the earliest opportunities presented to
Advanced Insulation to tackle this challenge was
BP’s Clair Ridge platform. The project was so
critically overweight at the design stage (10%)
that the operator started looking for new ideas,
challenging everything. In 2009, Advanced
Insulation was approached by BP, which was
looking for a quick solution for light-weight blast
panels to protect the platform underdeck from fire,
sea and low temperatures. The oil major had used
stainless steel previously, but found they were not
only expensive but heavy and easily-dented.
