Morandi Bridge
Removal Project
After the collapse of Morandi bridge, Fagioli was called,
together with other expert operators for the removal
of Morandi bridge sections. Main temporary joint
ventures companies for this project are: F.LLI OMINI,
which has been appointed as the Head of the group;
IPE PROGETTI, experts in structural and architectural
design; IREOS, specialized in environment services and
for over 15 years, in environment reclamation.
Fagioli with its high level engineered equipment is coope-
rating for the lowering operations of the sections which
did not breakdown and represented a serious danger for On the 9th of February 2019, Fagioli managed to

First operation, february 2019 condition, a strong wing which postponed the lowering
action. Fagioli used No. 4 x 600 ton capacity strand
jacks (No. 2 strand jacks on the Western side bridge
pylon and No. 2 on Eastern side bridge pylon) to
lower the central bridge section. The jacks used for
the lowering operation were positioned onto cantilever
beams provided with additional No. 4 strand jacks (180
ton capacity each) with the task of balance the whole
structure. No. 2 support beams were transversally
positioned underneath the western and eastern
bridge pylons in order to anchor all the lifting/lowering
structure to the w/e bridge sections. On the eastern
bridge pylon another structure was positioned at the
top end of the bridge with No. 2 additional strand
jacks with counterweights with the task of providing a
counterbalancing action during the lowering (Please see

After the removal of some of the sections and the neces-
sary environment reclamation, it was decided to explode
some of the pylons (not in Fagioli scope of work). At the
time being, all the sections and pylons of the Morandi
bridge, have been successfully removed.
