                                                                      vement, were skidded under the support frame
                                                                      (where the reactor was stored) and took the load of
                                                                      the heavy item. Skid shoes are provided with inter-
                                                                      nal jacks able to lift the base where the item is leant
                                                                      with a useful stroke which can adjust the correct
                                                                      height to take and secure the whole load without
                                                                      any unforeseen movements.
                                                                      Once the reactor was connected to the “transver-
                                                                      sal” skid shoes, it was  eventually skidded, reaching
                                                                      the  foundation area (pict.09). Once checked that
       Pict .09                                                       the reactor was in correct position, it was lowered
                                                                      by means of the skid shoes lowering stroke system
                                                                      and bolted. Fagioli equipment was then discon-
                                                                      nected and removed (pict.10).

                                                                      Final conclusions

                                                                      This was a milestone operation for Fagioli. In terms
                                                                      of engineering and heavy haulage and lifting opera-
                                                                      tions, Fagioli was compelled to find the perfect and
                                                                      zero-accident solution for the transport and instal-
                                                                      lation of the 458 ton reactor. Fagioli door-to-door
