Techint E&C focuses on high-value engineering in Italy

The historic multinational provider of EPC services all over the world is reinforcing its local branches’ skills and tasks
in response to the demands of the global plant engineering market. In Italy the company contractor high added-value
engineering services for large-scale industrial and civil plant engineering projects.

Techint Engineering & Construction is an EPC contractor implementing large-scale oil&gas, power, mining and
infrastructure projects all over the world. In Italy, Techint Engineering & Construction aims to be a centre of
excellence in engineering, supplying high added-value services such as conceptual engineering, FEED (Front-End
Engineering Design) and basic engineering.
This is in line with the company’s specific strategy of offering its customers unique value. The approach, a distinctive
characteristic of Techint E&C, is not limited to design based on criteria supplied by the customer, but is backed by
solid experience in executing complex EPC projects, which complements its specific skills in particularly high-value
projects. This expertise enables the company to work on engineering projects clearly envisaging the construction
and commissioning needs of the plant right from the earliest stages.
One important recent example is a framework agreement signed with ENI, the scope of which includes analysis
of four Italian refineries to verify application of BAT (Best Available Techniques) in the area of environmental
prevention and protection. The engineering services support the customer’s review of the Integrated Environmental
Authorisations for refineries located in Sannazzaro de’ Burgondi (Pavia), Livorno, Venice and Taranto, and are in
addition to three other orders previously acquired in the context of the same framework agreement with ENI.
The assignment includes a gap analysis for each of the three refineries, with the aim of determining the conformity
of the conclusions on BAT application in relation to requirements, in line with the IED (European Environmental
Directive). Based on the results of the analysis, any actions required for improvement of plants and management
will be proposed to the customer, supplying a cost estimate. The contract also involves providing the customer
with assistance on the presentation to the Environment Ministry of the documents required under the Integrated
Environmental Authorisation review procedure, taking advantage of the company’s specific HSE engineering
capabilities.
Techint Engineering & Construction’s Milan offices use cutting-edge project design software tools as well as
simulation tools developed in-house and in partnership with Politecnico di Milano. In the first case, dynamic
process simulation models representing an LNG regasification terminal have been created. In the second case, 3D
models simulating CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) have been developed for study of key physical phenomena
in industrial plants (gas dispersion, fluid turbulence, explosions, flame detectors, etc.), in addition to availability of
BIM (Building Information Modeling) applications for civil and infrastructure design.
